Princess Cut
| Round | Princess | Emerald | Asscher | Pear | Marquise | Heart | Oval | Radiant |
Most fancy shape diamonds cannot sparkle as well as a well cut round diamond. The facets of fancy shaped diamonds are elongated and cause light to leak through the bottom of the diamond. Princess cut is becoming the second most popular diamond shape, after the round, because it was designed for getting maximum brilliance from a square cut. Compared to a Round Brilliant, a cutter can retain more of the original rough diamond during cutting. That is why with a given quality, princess cut diamonds per carat price usually cost less than round brilliant diamonds. Princess cut diamonds usually have thin crown, therefore less fire is displaced compared with round brilliant diamonds. Since more weight is located below the girdle for princess cut diamonds, their size in millimeters is smaller per carat weight than round brilliant diamonds.
