marquise cut

During the 18 th century, Louis XIV was inspired by his mistress' smile and wanted diamonds to be cut to match it. A unique tapered cut was created, and was named after her name, the Marquise de Pompadour. Marquise cut creates diamonds with bigger table spread, so they appear larger than other traditional cuts. Its elongated shape gives a slender effect on the fingers. Marquise cut diamonds look so distinctive; they are just like the women who choose to wear them. Marquise cut diamonds are essentially oval diamonds with opposite sides pointing at each end. Try to avoid marquise cut diamonds with sharp girdle edges and thin end points, because they are more vulnerable to breakage.
