Diamond Certificate Education

Diamonds    Shape    Cut    Color    Clarity    Carat    Certification

Diamond certificate also called diamond grading report, comes from an unbiased third-party. It gives an independent expert opinion on the quality of a loose diamond or unset gemstone. Besides the diamond's 4Cs: color, clarity, cut and carat weight, it also describes the diamond's shape, measurements, table & depth, polish, symmetry, fluorescence, etc. The most famous independent diamond grading institutions are: Gemological Institute of America (GIA), American Gem Society (AGS) and Gemological Laboratory (EGL). Diamond certificate is very important to prove the diamond's identity. Many people call it the 5th C of the diamonds.

GIA

Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is the world's largest and most respected nonprofit institute of gemological research and learning. GIA is the creator of the 4Cs of diamond value (color, clarity, cut and carat weight). Diamonds submitted to GIA are examined by a minimum of four experienced diamond grader independently. GIA grading reports have been considered to be a authority of integrity throughout the diamond world. GIA issues two separate types of reports. The more common one is the full issued GIA document, and the other one is the Dossier. The full report is generally used for diamonds which are 1.00 ct or above, and the Diamond Dossier is a special report issued for diamonds weighing less than 1 carat.

AGS

Since 1996, the American Gem Society (AGS) Laboratory has provided modern diamond grading services to members of the industry. A Diamond Quality Document, issued by AGS, is globally accepted and respected as a document of authenticated quality. According to a diamond's polish, symmetry and proportions, AGS assigns diamonds a cut grade as a number from zero to ten. The AGS Ideal zero cut grade diamonds are the rarest and most desirable stones in the market. AGS graded only about 5% of all round cut diamonds listed on the internet, but 40% of ideal cut round diamonds.
